Community VNA Tree Lighting Ceremony 2016

Warm Wishes and a Caring Community at the VNA Tree Lighting Ceremony

When the Community Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset, Middlesex and Warren Counties held their annual Hospice Tree Lighting ceremony, CI-Group executives Don Christensen and Bob Tamburri had the opportunity to capture the heart-warming event and share the story.

As part of their tradition every year, the Community Visiting Nurse Association and the Community Care Hospice display a beautiful holiday tree, adorned with ornaments and red ribbons that serve as mementos of those who have been lost to life-limiting illnesses. Following the lighting, family members and friends gather around the tree to observe and photograph the ribbons carrying the name of their loved one.

This year, the tree lighting ceremony, ‘Light Up A Life’, was celebrated the evening of December 6th in Somerville, New Jersey. This touching event was attended by the Community VNA and Community Care Hospice staff, distinguished visitors and supporters, the Somerville High School Choir and families of loved ones gone. The event was graced by readings of encouragement, the lighting of candles, and a vocal performance by the Somerville High School Choir.

Opportunities like these — when we get to help teams whose work impacts our community — that align perfectly with our values. So despite the early December pouring rain, the CI-Group team set up a digital SLR on a tripod, and started filming. After capturing the tree lighting, Don and Bob moved to the front porch of the VNA’s restored Victorian mansion to film and record the Somerville Choir’s rendition of “Silent Night”.

The next morning the CI-Group team pulled together the video footage, several still photos, a script and storyboard for our video editor to begin production – special kudos and thanks to Brian Struble.

Within 48 hours, the two-minute video was completed and approved by the VNA to share with news outlets. It was picked up the following day by Gannett’s digital news site, MyCentralJersey.com, and who knows where else.

We enjoy our work with partners like the Community VNA, because it’s not just work for a client —  it’s an opportunity to work with a team whose mission we appreciate and support. It’s a unique and special chance to help our partners help others.
