CI-Group partners with NBC’s TODAY Show for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Even though it’s been months since Hurricane Sandy walloped the Northeast with devastating winds and flooding, thousands of families are still reeling from its forces. Destroyed homes, living without heat or electricity, and tattered businesses and lives are still far too common in countless neighborhoods.

It’s for these reasons that NBC News’ TODAY has launched “TODAY Gives Hope,” a new and ongoing initiative to bring relief to the nation’s communities in need when faced with challenging times. The show launched its first “chapter” on January 29—to inspire its viewers to bring relief and hope back to storm-devastated areas in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. The network plans to leverage its strength in news coverage, cross-platform promotion, and partnerships to take positive action for ravaged communities.

Here’s how the program will work…

  • TODAY will partner with United Way, Amazon, Penske and CI-Group to bring essential items to severely impacted communities… such as mattresses, tools, clothing, gift cards and more.
  • United Way will curate Amazon.com Wish Lists for these communities and will distribute them to local community organizations. It will get items in the hands of those who need them most.
  • CI-Group will receive all donated Wish List items from Amazon and sort, store and fulfill them. The effort is slated to last three months, and CI-Group is offering free space, materials and manpower to help.
  • Penske Truck Rental will pick up the items from CI-Group every two weeks to transport them to the United Way’s community organizations.

“We’re honored that our client, NBC, asked us to help in this effort,” said Eric Turiansky, president of CI-Group. “If you live in the Northeast, you saw firsthand how powerful and damaging this storm was—a major blow to our area. We’re happy to help people in our communities rebuild their lives.”
